Bold Choices—Poem
because we do have the choice
This poem started as a note. It grew to this.
To Live I do not dream of tomorrow, Its transient stroll across fresh ink. Where laughter rolls, void of sorrow, And gentle lips do but happiness drink. I do not wish for softer days, Their quiet thoughts set gently down. When dreams breathe pleasant ways, So lips will whisper just tender sounds. I long for gasping, daring hours, A wind that shoves secrets untold. Willful steps that stride with power, And wide eyed wonder, eager to behold. I want a pen whose strokes are keen, A well of black so rich and full. Thus writ, my mark will not take heed Of toll, of time or reaper’s cull. ©Kim E. Williams

What stayed with me is the refusal to ask life for gentleness. There is something powerful in choosing the hours that challenge us, because they are often the ones that make us feel most alive. The final image of the pen leaving its mark beyond time gives the poem its deepest strength.
This poem was so beautifully penned.
